MIDDLETOWN, PA - Penn State Berks dropped a defensive battle with Penn State Harrisburg by a score of 1-0 on Saturday, October 11. l.

The first half commenced with both teams settling into the match, as Berks aimed to establish early momentum. Maya Dolan tested the Penn State Harrisburg goalkeeper, Alexis Valenta, at the 20th minute, marking the first significant attempt on goal for Berks. Sophia Gonzalez stood firm in goal for Berks, making crucial saves, including a notable stop off Olivia Sgrignioli's attempt. As the half wore on, Devon Deery's corner kick in the 42nd minute set up Victoria McPoyle for a header, which was saved by Valenta, maintaining the scoreline. The half concluded with both teams unable to capitalize on their chances, leaving the match scoreless at the break.

The second half commenced with Berks maintaining a resolute defensive stance against Harrisburg. Early on, goalkeeper Gonzalez made critical saves at the 59th and 65th minutes, denying Olivia Sgrignioli and Diana Pon, respectively, to keep the match level. However, Harrisburg broke through in the 72nd minute with Diana Pon scoring the half's only goal, assisted by Sgrignioli, putting the home team ahead 1-0. Despite the setback, Berks continued to press for an equalizer. Ashley Jocham's attempt in the 67th minute went high, and the team faced consistent defensive challenges. Gonzalez remained pivotal, adding two more saves before the half concluded. The match ended with Harrisburg securing a 1-0 victory.

Gonzalez recorded six saves in the match, facing seven shots on goal for Berks. Dolan contributed by registering one shot on goal. McPoyle also added one shot on goal during the game.
