Women's Soccer Rolls Past Wilson In United East Opener

READING, PA. - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team secured a decisive 3-0 victory over Wilson College in their United East Opener on Wednesday evening at Berks Turf Field, with 13 shots on goal and a shutout performance from the defense. 

The first half began with the Nittany Lions setting an aggressive tone, earning multiple corner kicks early in the match. Their persistence paid off in the 13th minute when Isabelle Wilkes slide a shot past the Phoenix's goalkeeper with after an excellent pass from Ashley Jocham, giving the home team an early 1-0 lead. The hosts continued to apply pressure with several shots on goal, all while maintaining solid defensive play, highlighted by a key save from Sophia Gonzalez. As the half closed, the hosts held their 1-0 advantage, demonstrating strong offensive momentum and control.

The second half opened with a crucial moment for Berks as Wilkes scored in the 65th minute, intercepting a pass just outside the box and hammering the shot into the back for the net, extending the lead to 2-0. The Nittany Lions maintained pressure with multiple attempts on goal, including a shot by Devon Deery that was saved, and a strike from Lauren LeKites that hit the woodwork.

Later in the half, Wilkes slide a pass across the box, finding the feet of Sydney Gonzalez for her first career college goal, securing a 3-0 lead. The home team controlled the game through the final whistle, holding the Phoenix scoreless and concluding with a decisive victory.

Wilkes led the offensive effort for Berks, scoring two goals and assisting on another, including the game-winning goal. Sydney Gonzalez contributed with one goal from her two shots, both of which were on target. Jocham recorded an assist and took four shots, two of which were on goal. Sophia Gonzalez secured her 20 career shutout victory, making one save over 90 minutes. This victory also marked Berks' continued dominance over Wilson College, as they are now 13-0 all-time against them.
