Reading, PA- The Penn St. Berks Men's Basketball Team could not keep pace with United East leaders Bryn Athyn, falling to the Lions by a score of 105-65 on Wednesday, Jan 22.
Berks (5-11 Overall, 4-5 UE) got off to a slow start, falling behind 9-3 in the opening four minutes of the game.
Andre Ballard tried to get the offense going, scoring Berks first seven points, but Bryn Athyn (11-8 Overall, 9-1 UE) heated up from beyond the arc, racing out to a 16-point lead.
Kai Davis muscled in a pair of layups muscled in a pair of layups, matching baskets by the visiting Lions. Bryn Athyn used a 9-0 to stretch their lead to 29 points with 4:14 to go in the first half.
Luke Collins halted the run, knocking down a corner 3-pointer.
Andre Ballard hit from beyond the arc and
Jaedon Mast came away with a steal and score in the closing seconds of the first half, but Berks trailed 52-30 at the break.
Bryn Athyn continued their hot shooting in the second half, connecting three more times to push their lead back to 32 points. Berks tried to make a push later in the half, going on a 12-0 run capped off by a 3-pointer from
Schroeder Kleine, but still trailed by 29 points. The Lions could not pull any closer and they decided to give some bench players an opportunity.
Jean-Marc Amovin made the most of the opportunity, netting eight points.
Berks was led by Ballard who scored 21 points on 9-18 shooting, pulling in a team-high six rebounds. Davis gave the Lions a lift off the bench, scoring 10 points and gathering five rebounds.
WHO'S NEXT
The Lions travel to face Lancaster Bible College on Saturday, Jan. 25. Berks defeated the Chargers 86-85 in their first match-up this season. The tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
