READING, Pa. – The Penn State Berks volleyball team defeated Cheyney in straight sets on Saturday afternoon during a tri-match between Berks, Cheyney and Moravian. Berks won the Cheyney match 25-21, 25-18 and 25-19. Berks fell to Moravian, 25-19, 25-11 and 25-8.
Berks hit .309 against Cheyney, including a game-high .313 in the first set. The Berks offensive attack was spread out among several players, as Katelyn Williams led the team with 11 kills.
Jordan Thompson had 10, and Makenzie Shoop had eight. Emily Snader had seven kills and hit a team-high .462. Tarynn Coldren had 37 assists.
Berks completed the second set with eight straight points. Madelyn Caris bookended the run with a kill to begin and an ace to end the set. Shoop and Williams each had two kills on the run.
Thompson had three kills to open the third set as Berks started with a 9-2 lead and cruised to the victory.
Against Moravian, Gabryella Maney had a pair of aces, and Williams led the team with five kills.
Berks returns home on Monday against Penn State Hazleton at 3:30 p.m.
