Volleyball Falls In Four to Elizabethtown

READING, Pa. – The Penn State Berks volleyball team lost in four sets to Elizabethtown on Tuesday night in the team's first home match of the 2024 season. Elizabethtown won 25-11, 25-17, 15-25, 25-17.

Diana Stoltzfus led the Nittany Lions with 10 kills. Makenzie Shoop and Jordan Thompson each had six. Thompson also had four service aces, and Katelyn Williams had 18 digs. Libby Swoyer led the Nittany Lions with 20 assists, and Tarynn Coldren had 10.

In the first set, a kill by Stoltzfus and an ace by Swoyer cut the Elizabethtown lead to 15-11, but the Blue Jays scored the final 10 points to take the first set.

After a slow start in the second set, Berks rattled off six straight points to close its deficit to 23-17. Williams had a kill and an ace in the run.

Berks broke through in the third set thanks to a 9-0 run that took a 10-9 deficit into an 18-10 lead. Thompson had three of her aces during this run, and Shoop added a kill. The teams traded points for the remainder of the set, but the Berks lead was so great that Thompson's kill closed the set with a 25-15 Berks win.

Stoltzfus had two kills in a 4-1 Berks run to give the Nittany Lions a 17-14 advantage, but much like the first set, the Blue Jays closed the set and the match with an 11-0 run.

Berks returns to action with two matches on Saturday, playing Moravian at 11 a.m. and Cheyney at 3 p.m.
