READING, PA- The Penn St. Berks Baseball team was swept by Penn College in their three-game series on Friday, Apr. 5 and Saturday, Apr. 6. On Friday, the Lions fell in an extra inning thriller a score of 3-2. Berks struggled to find their offensive rhythm on Saturday, losing by a scores of 8-0 and 11-5.
GAME 1
In the opening game of the series, the Lions traded runs with Penn College in the third inning. Trailing 1-0, Nick Hardesty started the rally by drawing a walk. Colin Templin then singled to third base, putting a pair of runners on base. Zach Smith launched a double down the left field line, allowing Hardesty to score and level the game at one.
Berks got a strong pitching performance from Ricky Peters who threw 6.2 innings, allowing only two runs on five hits while recording eight strikeouts. Justin Hefner and Nick Bergeman were also strong in relief with the duo only allowing four hits during their four combined innings.
Penn College plated a run in the seventh inning to take a 2-1 advantage which they held going into the bottom of the ninth inning. In the ninth, Berks was down to their last out when Kolbie Reeser drove a single into right field. Reeser then capitalized on a wild pitch, advancing to third base. Hardesty smacked a clutch single into center field tying the game and sending it into extra innings. The Wildcats scored a run in the top of the 11th inning to retake a 3-2 lead. The Lions put two runners on base in the bottom of the inning, but could not plate a run, falling 3-2.
GAME 2
Berks struggled to get their offense going in the first game of their Saturday doubleheader being held without a hit in the first four innings of the seven-inning battle. Penn College capitalized scoring six runs in the first two innings to take the lead.
The Lions best scoring chance came in the fifth inning. Isaiah Dull led off the inning by launching a double deep into left field. Jonathan Myers then drove a single up the middle to put runners on the corners. Berks could not capitalize on the opportunity and Penn College added two more runs in the sixth inning to secure the 8-0 victory.
In between games, Penn St. Berks honored the senior members of the team; Kolbie Reeser, Jase Graybill, Nick Bergeman, Colin Templin, Josh Miiller, Colin Amerine and David Rudisill.
GAME 3
Penn College once again scored first, taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning. The Lions responded in the bottom of the inning. Bergeman was hit by a pitch and Myers beat out a throw on a fielder's choice to put a pair of runners on base. Hardesty lined a single up the middle to load the bases. Templin drew a walk, bringing home Bergeman and making the score 2-1. Penn College responded, scoring five runs in the top of the fifth inning to grab firm control of the game.
The Lions trailed 9-1 entering the bottom of the fifth inning. With a runner on second base, Hardesty drove an RBI single into right field, cutting the deficit down to seven. Templin then singled to third base, and due to an error, Hardesty was able to score. Penn College scored twice in the seventh inning to push their advantage back to eight. The Lions plated one run in the bottom of the inning when Myers scored after an error. David Rudisill crushed a solo home run to lead off the eighth inning, pulling the Lions with six. Berks could not pull any closer, falling 11-5.

The Lions will travel to face Albright College in a nonconference match up on Wednesday, Apr. 10. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
