Baseball Sweeps Wilson

CHAMBERSBURG, PA- The Penn St. Berks Baseball team got back on track, sweeping Wilson College in a pair of seven inning games on Saturday, Apr. 20. The Lions took game one 7-3 and captured game two 14-2.  

GAME 1 

The Lions trailed 2-0 entering the third inning when their offense found its rhythm. Berks captialized on an error and worked a pair of walks to load the bases. Nick Bergeman made the most of the moment, driving a single into right field, bringing home two runs to level the score at two. A failed pickoff attempt allowed Isaiah Dull to score putting the Lions ahead 3-2. Berks continued to push, loading the bases with two outs in the inning. Jonathan Myers and Kolbie Reeser each worked walks resulting in runs to stretch the advantage to three.  

Berks got a strong pitching performance from Josh Miiller who threw 7.0 innings, allowing three runs on 10 hits while striking out three. The Lions added runs in the fourth and fifth innings. The Lions once again loaded the bases and this time Bergeman lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring David Rudisill. In the fifth inning, Myers scored a failed pickoff attempt to make the score 7-2. Berks held Wilson to one run in the final three innings, securing the victory. 

GAME 2 

Berks capitalized on their momentum from their game one victory, racing out to an early lead in game two. Nick Hardesty started the rally with a single through the left side. Rudisill smashed a double to left field scoring Hardesty. The Lions loaded the bases and Bergeman once again came through. This time he crushed a triple into the right center field gap, plating three runs to push the advantage to four. Griffin Kay launched a triple of his own, scoring Bergeman.  

The Lions offense continued to slowly pull away, scoring a run in the second and third innings. Dull delievered an RBI single scoring Reeser to make the score 6-0. In the thrid inning, Hardesty singled through the right-side, plating Kay. After Wilson scored once in the bottom of the third inning, Berks answered with two more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Once again, the Lions loaded the base and Bergeman drove in his fourth and fifth RBIs of the day with a double into left field.  

Berks once again had solid pitching performances from Ricky Peters and Justin Hefner. Peters pitched 5.0 innings allowing only one run on two hits. Hefner came on in relief, pitching 2.0 innings, allowing one run on three hits.  

In full control of the game, Berks piled on several more runs in the top of the sixth inning. As they had much of the day, the Lions loaded the bases, this time for Kay. He reached on a fielding error, plating a run to make the score 10-1. Myers singled into right field and Resser reached on a fielders' choice, each scoring a run. Hardesty lifted a sacrifice fly into right field, scoring Kay to give Berks a 13-1 advantage. Zach Smith was hit by a pitch, driving in a 14th run. Wilson scored once in the seventh inning, but they could not pull any closer as the Lions rolled to a 14-2 lead.  

WHO'S NEXT  
The Lions will return home to Eastern University in a pair of seven-inning games on Tuesday, Apr. 23. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:30 PM.
