Baseball Rallies To Take One From Eastern

READING, PA- The Penn St. Berks Baseball team rally from an opening game defeat to knock off Eastern University in game two of their doubleheader on Tuesday, Apr. 23. 

GAME 1 

The Lions took the early in the opening game, scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Kolbie Reeser started the offense, hitting a single to third base. David Rudisill crushed a home run down the right field line, putting Berks ahead 2-0. Eastern battled back, scoring in the third, fourth and fifth innings to take a 4-2 advantage.  

Berks got a boost from Jase Graybill who blasted a solo home run over the left field fence to make the score 4-3. The Eagles plated a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning to push their advantage back to three runs. Berks responded in the bottom of the inning. Rudisill drew a walk to lead off the inning and then Nick Bergeman smacked a double into left center field, scoring Rudisill. Trent Gerhardt kept the rally going, driving a single up the middle to score Bergeman. Eastern stopped the Lions from tying the score and added two more runs in the top of the seventh to make the score 8-5. The Lions scored twice in the bottom of the inning but could not pull any closer, falling 8-7.  

GAME 2 

Berks found themselves trailing 2-0 heading into the bottom of the first inning. Jonathan Myers drew a walk to lead off the inning, stealing second base to move himself into scoring position. Colin Templin singled through into left field and during the play Myers scored to cut the deficit down to one. Later in the inning, Templin reached on a wild pitch.  

The Lions broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth inning. Griffin Kay led off the inning by smacking a double down the left field line. After Nick Hardesty was hit by a pitch, Resser reached on an error and on the chaos of the play, all three runners managed to hustle around the bases and score, putting Berks ahead 5-3. Templin doubled down the left field line and Rudisill walked to put two runners on base. Zach Smith emptied the dugout, launching a three-run home run over the left field fence to make the score 8-3. The Lions added one more run, when Kay doubled to center field, scoring Dull. Eastern scored twice in the top of the sixth inning, but they could not pull off a rally as the Lions secured the 9-5 victory.  

WHO'S NEXT  
The Lions will host Albright College in their annual Pink Game on Thursday, Apr. 25. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
