Lions Battle Chargers to Draw

READING, PA- The Penn St. Berks Baseball team battled Lancaster Bible to a 15-15 draw on Monday, Mar. 25 as the game was called due to darkness after the 11th inning.  

The Lions got off to an incredible start scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Berks worked the bases loaded for Griffin Kay who then belted a grand slam over the left field fence, giving the Lions a 4-0 lead. LBC answered by scoring a run in the top of the second inning. Jonathan Myers answered right back in the bottom of the second inning, launching a solo home run over the left field wall. Later in the inning, David Rudisill lifted a sacrifice fly into center field allowing Kolbie Reeser to tag up and score.  

The Chargers answered back, scoring in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to level the score at six. Berks responded, surging back in front in the bottom of the inning. Reeser hit a hard grounder to second allowing Colin Amerine to score. In the seventh inning, Armerine drove in his first RBI of the day, cracking a double into left center field, allowing Rudisill to score. LBC scored twice in the top of the eighth inning to tie the game at 8, but Berks once again responded. Zach Smith came through for the Lions, blasting an RBI single through the left side allowing Nick Hardesty to score. Berks held a 9-8 lead, heading into the ninth inning.  

LBC used a couple of walks and four hits to score six runs and build a 14-9 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth inning. Berks would not quit, fighting back in the bottom of the inning. Amerine reached on an error and Nick Bergeman hit a double down the left field line to put a pair of runners in scoring position. The Chargers got two quick outs, bringing the Lions down to their final out needing to score five runs. Hardesty singled to center field, scoring Amerine. Colin Templin then reached on a throwing error, allowing Bergeman to score and cut the deficit down to three. Bryce Kelly smacked a double into right field, allowing a pair of runners to score, pulling Berks within one run. Smith then leveled the score, hitting a single over the third baseman and down the left field line, allowing Kelly to score.  

The game would go into extra innings, with neither team scoring in the 10th inning. In the 11th inning, Kelly delivered an RBI single to answer an LBC run and tie the score at 15. The was called due to darkness after the 11th inning, forcing the contest to result in a tie.  

WHO'S NEXT  
The Lions will travel to take on Penn St. Harrisburg in a three-game series starting on Friday, Mar. 29. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
