Lions Drop Slugfest with Gettysburg

READING, PA- The Penn St. Berks Baseball team dropped a slugfest with Gettysburg College by a score of 29-15 on Sunday, March 24.  

The Lions fell behind early as the Bullets scored 15 runs in the first three innings of action. Berks would get on the board in the bottom of the first inning. The Lions had runners on the corners for Griffin Kay who blasted an RBI double into left field. Nick Bergeman sliced a hard ground ball that allowed Colin Templin to score, making the score 5-2.  

Berks would string together hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Templin provided an RBI double down the right field line that scored Nick Hardesty. Later in the inning Bryce Kelly took advantage of a defensive lapse and stole home. Begerman then pushed an RBI single through the left side of the infield, plating Berks' fifth run of the game. Logan Ewert brought home another run, lifting a sacrifice fly into left field.  

Gettysburg continued to rack up runs, scoring in every inning to build their lead. Berks tried to keep pace, scoring in the bottom of the fifth inning. Templin continued to shine, this time blasting a double into right center field that scored two more runs. Later in the inning, Riley Weaver recorded an RBI single.  

The Lions biggest offensive explosion came in the bottom of the sixth inning. With the bases loaded, Templin drew a walk, scoring a run and making the score 20-10. Kay walked in another run and then Kelly would capitalize on a wild pitch, scoring a run. Isaiah Dull reached on a field error, allowing the fourth run of the inning to score. Berks would plate two more runs with kay scoring on a wild pitch and Ewert scoring Dull with an RBI single that made the score 20-15. Gettysburg slammed the door closed, scoring nine runs in the seventh inning, securing the 29-15 victory.

The Lions will finish their series Lancaster Bible College on Monday, Mar. 25. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
