Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - The Penn St. Berks Women's Basketball Team started their season by falling to DeSales University in the Gwynedd Mercy Tip-Off Tournament by a score of 78-32 on Friday, Nov. 8.
The Lions (0-1 Overall) got off to a slow start, falling behind as the Bulldogs opened the game on a 17-2 run.
Liberty Stitzman tried to jump start the Lions offense, drawing a foul and layup and completing a three-point play.
Kylie Dunn hit a jumper just before the end of the quarter, making the score 17-7 heading into the second quarter.
DeSales once again started quickly in the second quarter, scoring the opening nine points of the frame.
Gabrielle Merritt converted a layup and then knocked down a 3-pointer to bring the team back within 13 points. The Bulldogs scored the final four points of the quarter and led 30-13 at the break.
Berks tried to find some offensive rhythm in the third quarter, with
Ashlyn Clark and
Hailey Miller converting layups. Clark added another layup late in the quarter, but the Lions trailed by 24 heading into the final frame. DeSales had an offensive eruption in the fourth quarter, scoring 31 points as they powered to a 78-32 victory.
The Lions had five players score four players score five points, including Clark who finished with six rebounds. Miller pulled in a team-high nine rebounds.

The Lions will continue play in the Gwynedd Mercy Tip-Off Tournament taking on Muhlenberg College on Saturday, Nov. 9. The opening tip-off is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
