Women's Volleyball Topped By Seahawks in Regular Season Finale

Reading, Pa.- The Penn St. Berks Women's Volleyball Team dropped their final regular season match, falling to St. Mary's College of Maryland in five sets on Saturday, Nov. 2. The Lions could not pull off a late comeback, falling by set scores of 25-13, 20-25, 23-25, 25-22 & 10-15.

Berks (7-15 Overall, 3-7 UEC) got off to an excellent start in the first set, a 7-0 run featuring three service aces by Diana Stoltzfus to take an 8-2 lead. The Blue & White added two separate 4-0 runs, pushing their advantage to seven. Berks won the final five points of the set, with a Stoltzfus service ace, securing the opening set victory.

The Seahawks (17-10 Overall, 9-1 UEC) made several adjustments and were able to jump out to early leads in the second and third sets, capturing each one to build a 2-1 lead in the match. The Lions looked to get back on track in the fourth set. Kills by Katelyn Williams and Jordan Thompson jump started the offense, sparking a 6-0 run that gave the team a 7-3 lead. The Lions remained in control throughout the set, trading points with the Seahawks. Using kills from Madelyn Caris and Stoltzfus, the Blue & White were able to win the final three points, sending the match to a fifth set.

In the fifth set, the Lions grabbed the early advantage, taking a 5-3 lead. St. Mary's (MD) pulled back ahead of Berks, but a Caris kill leveled the score at seven. The Seahawks pulled away down the stretch, winning the final four points to win the match.

Stoltzfus put on one of her best performances of the season, recording 16 kills, nine digs and seven service aces. Williams finished the match with a double-double, posting 11 kills and 23 digs. Makenzie Shoop had a strong showing, recording nine kills and 13 digs. Tarynn Coldren recorded 23 assists and Libby Swoyer added 20 assists to power the Lions attack.

WHO'S NEXT
The Lions have clinched the #11 seed in the United East Championship Tournament and will travel to face the #6 seed Notre Dame of Maryland on Wednesday November 6 at 7:00 PM.
