Women's Volleyball Falls in UE First Round

BALTIMORE- The Penn St. Berks Women's Volleyball Team had its United East Championship Tournament run come to an end, falling to #6 Notre Dame of Maryland on Wednesday, Nov. 6. The Lions were downed in straight sets by scores of 13-25, 21-25, & 17-25.

Berks got off to a slow start in the opening set, allowing the Gators to race out to an early 12-4 lead. The Lions started to get the offense going midway through the set, rattling off three-straight points on kills by Diana Stoltzfus and Madelyn Caris. The Blue & White could not sustain any momentum, dropping the opening set.

The Lions once again found themselves trailing early in the second set, but Katelyn Williams started the offense, posting two kills to pull the team back within three points. Berks trailed seven midways through the set but a block by Jordan Thompson and Caris sparked a 4-0 run bring the team within striking distance.
The Lions fought off a pair of set points, but eventually dropped the second set.

In the third set, Berks once again trailed early, falling behind 12-6. A kill by Thompson and a service ace from Stoltzfus tried to get the offense going, but Berks still trailed by six. The Lions could not cut into the deficit, eventually dropping the set and the match.

The Lions offense was led by Stoltzfus and Thompson who each posted seven kills. Libby Swoyer recorded a team-high three service aces. Tarynn Coldren controlled the offense, posting 15 assists.
