Men's Basketball Drops Highly Contested Contest to McDaniel

Reading, PA- The Penn St. Berks Men's Basketball Team dropped a highly contested matchup with McDaniel College, falling to the Green Terror by a score of 72-67 on Tuesday, Nov. 19. 

The Lions (0-5 Overall) got off to a great start jumping out to a 7-0 lead behind layups from Andre Ballard and Josh Mingledolph. Mingledolph had the hot hand early, connecting on a couple of jump shots to extend the team's lead to eight. Later in the half, Isaiah Cotton converted a layup on the break, giving Berks a 19-10 lead. Marquis Ferreira pushed the advantage to 11, hitting a corner 3-pointer with 5:04 remaining in the opening half. McDaniel (3-1 Overall) fought back, going on an 11-0 run to close within one point with 1:13 remaining in the half. Kai Davis hit a jump shot and Jaedon Mast converted two free throws to give Berks a 37-35 lead at the break.

Ballard started the Lions scoring in the second half, hitting a 3-pointer from the wing to put the Lions ahead by three. The Green Terror went on a 6-0 run, taking their first lead of the night. Berks kept pace, tying the score several times, but could not recapture the advantage. Luke Collins and Ballard each hit 3-pointers to keep Berks within two points with 10:00 minutes remaining in the half. McDanel slowly pulled away, taking a 65-58 lead with just over seven minutes remaining in regulation. Ballard had an answer, drilling back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the deficit down to one point. Berks could not surge back in front trailing by three points in the final minute. The Lions would get several chances to level the score but could not convert, eventually falling 72-67.

Ballard finished the game with 18 points going 4-9 from beyond the arc. Mingledolph also scored 18 points to go along with a team-high five assists and five rebounds. Ferreira provided a spark off the bench, scoring nine points.

WHO'S NEXT
The Lions will travel to face Carin University in a nonconference match-up on Saturday, Nov. 23. The opening tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
