Bryn Mawr, PA- The Penn St. Berks Women's Basketball Team could not fend off a late push by Bryn Mawr College, falling to the Owls by a score of 40-35 on Monday, Nov. 11.
The Lions (0-3 Overall) did not get off to a strong start, falling behind to the Owls (3-0 Overall) at the end of first quarter. Berks began to chip away at the deficit in the second quarter when Ginna Roberts drilled a transition 3-pointer. A few moments later
Hailey Miller knocked down a midrange jumper, cutting the deficit down to five. Miller added two more 3-pointers in the
quarter, but Bryn Mawr led 19-15 at the half.
Berks continued to battle in the fourth quarter, slashing the deficit down to one midway through the quarter after another Miller 3-pointer.
Gabrielle Merritt converted a fast break layup and then a pair of free throws to knot the score at 25.
Morgan Dunbar and
Jalyn Hann added a pair of free throws, giving Berks a 29-27 lead going into the final frame. Dunbar kept the Lions in front, drilling a long jump shot from just inside the arc to make the score 31-29. The Owls fought back retaking the lead with 7:35 remaining in the game. Miller leveled the score at 33, finishing a reverse layup. Roberts answered a Bryn Mawr basket with one of her own, grabbing an offensive rebound and converting a contested layup. The Lions could not answer a couple late baskets, as the Owls scored the final five points to earn the 40-35 victory.
Berks was led by Miller who scored 13 points, hitting three times from beyond the arc.
Mahala Ruffner provided an excellent defensive performance, hauling in a team-high of nine rebounds. Roberts played from wire-to-wire scoring five points to go along with strong defensive showing.

The Lions will host Goucher College in their home opener on Wednesday, Nov. 13. The opening tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
