Women's Volleyball Falls In Road Clash with Gators

BALTIMORE- The Penn St. Berks Women's Volleyball Team fell in a road clash with Notre Dame of Maryland University on Tuesday, Oct. 29. The Lions dropped the match by set scores of 15-25, 21-25, & 21-25.

Berks (7-14 Overall, 3-6 UEC) got off to a slow start in the opening set, allowing the Gators (15-9 Overall, 6-3 UEC) to take a 5-0 lead. The Lions tried to shake off the slow start with kills by Jordan Thompson and Emily Snader keeping the team within striking distance. The Blue & White could not overcome the slow start, eventually dropping the opening set.

The Lions once again fell behind early in the second set, once again trailing by five. This time the Lions fought back, going on a 4-1 run featuring two kills by Diana Stoltzfus to pull back in two. Later in the set, Berks capitalized on several hitting errors making the score 17-15. Makenzie Shoop slammed down a kill to level the set at 20. Notre Dame answered back, winning five of the final six points to capture the set.

Berks got off to a better start in the third set, leveling the score at eight. Notre Dame managed to pull away by five later in the set, but the Lions answered back. Kills by Snader and Shoop sparked a 4-0 run that cut the deficit back down one point. The teams traded points down the stretch, but the Lions could not recapture the lead, eventually dropping the set and the match.

The Lions offense was led by Stoltzfus, who hammered down eight kills to go along with a team-high 16 digs. Shoop also had a good offensive outing, posting seven kills. Libby Swoyer led the team in assists with 16 and Tarynn Coldren added 12 assists. Defensively, Katelyn Williams and Madelyn Caris each posted five digs.

WHO'S NEXT
The Lions will close the regular season when they host St. Mary's College of Maryland on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1:00 PM.
