Women's Volleyball Wins on Senior Day

Reading, Pa.- The Penn St. Berks Women's Volleyball Team celebrated senior day, rolling past Penn St. Brandywine in straight sets on Saturday, Oct. 26. The Lions earned the victory by set scores of 25-11, 25-22, & 27-25.  

Before the match, the Penn St. Berks Athletic Department and Women's Volleyball Team took a few moments to acknowledge the senior members of the team; Makenzie Shoop, Diana Stoltzfus, and Jordan Thompson 

Berks (7-13 Overall, 3-5 UEC) got off to a fast start, capitalizing on several Brandywine hitting errors to build a 7-3 lead. Katelyn Williams and Shoop recorded a couple of service errors, pushing the lead to eight. The Blue & White went on a massive run to close out the set, rattling off nine of the final ten points, with a service ace by Thompson closing out the run.  

Leading 1-0 in the match, the Lions once again took the lead in the second set, using a 6-0 run featuring three Shoop service aces. Brandywine closed the gap, closing within two at 18-16. Williams and Shoop answered back, slamming down back-to-back kills to push the lead back to five. Berks would hold on to capture the set, 25-22.  

The Lions looked to close out the match in the third set. After trailing early in the set, a kill by Stoltzfus tied the match at six. Trailing by three, Thompson earned a service ace and Stoltzfus picked up another kill to cut into the lead. Later in the set, Berks rattled off six straight points to hold a 24-20 lead. Brandywine would not go away, scoring five straight points to take a 25-24 lead. Thompson halted the rally with a thunderous block to level the score at 25. Berks capitalized on two hitting errors to win the set and the match.  

Williams led the Lions with nine kills to go along with 14 digs. Stoltzfus and Thompson each posted eight kills. Thompson and Shoop each recorded three service aces as the Lions racked up 11 as a team. Tarynn Coldren posted 16 assists and Libby Swoyer added 11 assists.  

WHO'S NEXT  

The Lions will hit the road to take on Notre Dame of Maryland in a key conference showdown on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 7:00 PM.
