Langhorne, Pa.- The Penn St. Berks Women's Soccer Team closed out the regular season by taking down Cairn University, winning by a score of 5-1 on Saturday, Oct 26.
Berks (7-8-2 Overall, 6-1-1 UEC) capitalized on an early Highlanders (5-8-1 Overall, 5-3 UEC) mistake, taking a 1-0 lead off an own goal in the third minute. Paige Thomas extended that advantage in the ninth minute, driving into a dangerous position and blasting a shot into the back of the net. Having captured the momentum, the Lions struck again in the 21st minute. Adriana Lepera played a ball into the box, finding Autumn Levengood. Levengood perfectly placed a shot into the back of the net, making the score 3-0. Cairn answered back, capitalizing on a penalty kick to make the score 3-1. Berks responded in the 41st minute. Ashley Jocham and Levengood used a combination of passes to set up Lepera for her first goal of the game. The Lions led 4-1 at the half.
The Blue & White added on to their advantage in the 57th minute. Thomas found Lepera in space and she blasted a shot into the net for her second goal of the game. The Lions would fire 16 total second half shots, but they could not add on their lead.
