Reading, Pa.- The Penn St. Berks Women's Soccer Team fell to Penn St. Abington in overtime in the United East Quarterfinals by a score of 2-1 on Saturday, Nov. 2.
Berks struggled to get their offense in gear early in the contest as they earned a pair of corner kicks but could not create a quality scoring chance.
Autumn Levengood got the Lions first quality shot, putting a ball on frame in the 37
th minute, but her shot was saved.
Adriana Lepera then found some space outside the box, firing a shot that sailed over the crossbar. The Lions finally broke through in the 41
st minute.
Mary King started the attack, winning several balls in the midfield and finding Lepera on the wing. Lepera played a ball across the box, finding
Ashley Jocham at the far post. Jocham gathered the ball and blasted a shot into the back of the net, giving Berks a 1-0 lead at the break.
The Lions had a flurry of shots to open the second half, putting two shots on frame, but could not extend their advantage. Penn St. Abington leveled the score, netting a goal in the 70
th minute. The Blue & White tried to answer back, with
Paige Thomas putting a shot on goal in the 78
th minute, but she could not score. The game remained tied at the end of regulation, sending the contest into overtime.
Lepera created a great scoring chance in the 93
rd minute, firing a shot toward the center of the goal, but it was once again saved. Levengood then fired a shot of her own in the 95
th minute, but Abington's goalkeeper was able to punch the ball away. Abington was able to score in the 96
th minute, pulling off an upset victory.
