READING, PA- The Penn St. Berks Women's Soccer Team battled Penn St. Abington to a 2-2 draw on Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 12.
Before the game started, the Penn St. Berks Athletic Department took a few moments to honor the two senior members of the team, Adriana Lepera and Mary King. The Lions (4-7-2 Overall, 3-0-1 UEC) got off to a fast start, striking in the third minute. Isabelle Wilkes played a ball to Ashley Jocham in the box and Jocham blasted a shot into the back of the net to give Berks a 1-0 lead. The Blue & White struck again in the sixth minute. Wilkes continued to wreak havoc on Abington's defense, drawing defenders and finding a wide open King in front of the next. She capitalized, netting the Lions second goal of the game. Berks fired five more first half shots, but could not add on to their advantage, leading 2-0 at the break.
Abington (7-4-2 Overall, 2-0-2 United East) stormed out of the break, scoring twice in the first 30 minutes of the second half to level the score at two. Berks tried to battle back with Maya Dolan rocketing a shot in the 87th minute, but Abington was able to fend off the scoring chance. Abington had the final scoring chance in the match, firing a pair of shots in the final 30 seconds, but Sophia Gonzalez made a pair of spectacular saves to preserve the draw.
