Women's soccer plays to scoreless draw with Penn College

WILLIAMSPORT, PA - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw with Penn College in both teams United East opener on Saturday afternoon at UPMC Field.

The Nittany Lions are now 2-4-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the United East, while the Wildcats move to 4-0-5 on the season and 0-0-1 in the conference.

Berks controlled possession throughout the contest, outshooting the Wildcats by a 20-9 margin (11-3 on goal) and held a 5-4 advantage on corner kicks.

In the opening half, Penn College was able to create the first scoring opportunity with a shot by Teagan Willey at the 3:24 mark, but Sophia Gonzalez was there to make the save. 

Later in the period, Diana Pon and Sara Hathaway both put shots on target in the 18th minute, but Nicole Lichtinger was there to make the save for Penn College. Pon, Hathaway, Lauren LeKites, and Maya Dolan all had shots stopped over the last 20 minutes of the opening half.

Adriana Lepera had a shot in the first minute of the second half and Penn College countered with a shot a minute later, but Lichtinger and Gonzalez each were there to make the stops. Berks had six shots (four by Pon) and three corner kicks over the final 20 minutes of the half, but could not find the back of the net.

Lichtinger finished with 11 saves for the Wildcats, while Gonzalez had three stops for Berks.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Arcadia University for a non-conference contest on Wednesday, September 27 at 4 p.m.
