WVB picks up 3-1 win over Wilkes

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team rallied back from a slow start for a thrilling 3-1 win over Wilkes University in non-conference action on Wednesday night.

The Nittany Lions (2-3) dropped the opening set by a score of 25-16 and trailed 15-5 early in the second set. Diana Stoltzfus and Makenzie Shoop went on serving runs that saw Berks battle back and eventually win the set by a 27-25 margin. The Nittany Lions took the third game by a 25-20 score and claimed the victory with a 25-16 triumph in the fourth set.

Jordan Thompson matched a career-high with 15 kills to lead the Berks offensive and finished with a season-high .480 attack percentage. Makenzie Shoop turned in a strong performance with 11 kills, followed by Diana Stoltzfus with 10 and Gab Murphy with seven. Stoltzfus had a team-best four service aces, all of which came in the second set comeback. She was followed by Shoop and Riley Kovach with two each and Aubrey Hunt added one. Hunt led the Nittany Lions with 15 digs, while Kovach had 14. Stoltzfus (12) and Shoop (10) also recorded double figures in digs. Libby Swoyer recorded a career-high 45 assists to go along with six digs.

Nicole Fitzpatrick and Alexis Reedy tied for the lead with nine kills each for the Colonels. Ali Yordy had 18 digs and Alexa Cassel recorded 27 assists.

The Nittany Lions compete in a tri-match this Saturday at Eastern University. Berks will face Haverford College at 12 p.m., followed by host Eastern at 2 p.m.
