Women's soccer falls on the road to Scranton

SCRANTON, PA - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team fell on the road, 3-0, to the University of Scranton in non-conference action on Tuesday night.

The Nittany Lions fall to 2-2 on the season, while the Royals improve to 2-2-1 overall.

Scranton came out of the gates firing, recording seven shots and two corner kicks over the first 15 minutes of the contest. But the Berks defense was able to keep them off the scoreboard throughout that time. The Royals broke through with a score in the 22:02 mark of the contest on a score by Niamh Healy. Scranton maintained the pressure throughout the remainder of the period and were able to add to its lead with a goal in the 43rd minute.

The Royals tacked on another score in the 57th minute to build a comfortable 3-0 lead. Madi Craley, Diana Pon, and Carly Fox combined for six shots in the second half, but none were able to find the back of the net.

Sophia Gonzalez finished the game with seven saves in net, while Maura Chawner made two stops. Scranton goalkeeper had three saves to record the shutout win.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Rowan University for a non-conference contest on Friday, September 15 at 6 p.m.
