Men's soccer falls to Wilkes in season opener

WILKES, PA - The Penn State Berks men's soccer team opened up its 2023 campaign with a 6-0 setback on the road to Wilkes University in non-conference action on Friday evening at Schmidt Field.

The Colonels netted their first goal of the day with a score by Joseph Zisa at the 24:11 mark of the first half. The home squad then doubled its lead with a success penalty kick with just 38 seconds remaining in the half. Wilkes put the game out of reach with a pair of goals over the first six and a half minutes of the second half. They finished off their scoring with two goals in the final seven minutes of action.

Ethan Brazier started at goalkeeper for Berks, he did not face any shots in his 23 minutes of action. Freshman Josh Martin recorded six saves in his collegiate debut.

The Nittany Lions will host their home opener against Ursinus College on Sunday, September 3 at 12 p.m.
