Baseball topped by Albright

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks baseball team fell to Albright College, 10-5, in an non-conference contest on Wednesday afternoon at Hintz Athletic Field.

Albright scored once in the top of the second and added two more runs (all unearned) in third to take an early 3-0 lead. The Nittany Lions scored twice in the fifth to pull within a run, but Albright responded with four in the sixth and added two more in the seventh. Berks pushed across two runs in the seventh to make it 9-4 and the two teams each added one run over their final two at-bats.

Colin Templin was 2-for-5 with an RBI, while Kolbie Reeser had a hit, stolen base, and drove in two runs. Jase Graybill was 1-for-2 with a stolen base, RBI, and two runs scored, Logan Ewert scored twice and stole base. Jonathan Myers added a hit, stolen base, run scored, and an RBI, Nick Bergeman and Chad Evans both tallied a hit.

Myers made a spectacular diving catch in the top of the fourth and threw out the running tagging up from third to end the inning and keep Albright from scoring. The Nittany Lions defense also had an inning ending double play with Templin firing to Evans at second to start a 6-4-3 double play.

Wade Kaminski tossed 1.2 innings of one-hit, scoreless relief with a pair of strikeouts.

The Nittany Lions will open up their three-game United East series with a single-game against St. Mary's College on Friday, April 21 at 3 p.m. The baseball team will join the men's and women's tennis, and softball in hosting their Pink Game fundraiser on Friday. All proceeds collected on that day will go toward the Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County. For more information about the organization, click here.
