Baseball falls short at Lancaster Bible

LANCASTER, PA - The Penn State Berks baseball team come up just short in an 11-10 setback to Lancaster Bible College in an United East contest on Monday afternoon at Charger Field.

The Nittany Lions jumped out to a 4-0 lead after their first two at-bats, but LBC matched them with four over the second and third inning. Berks put up a pair of runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings, while the Chargers scored one back in the bottom of hte sixth to make it 8-5. LBC jumped ahead 11-8 after scoring six runs in the bottom of the seventh, followed by Berks scoring twice in the eighth to pull within one run. Jonathan Myers got a two-out single in the top of the ninth to keep hope alive for Berks, but Blake Greenly slammed the door shut to earn the save.

Chad Evans was 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI, and three runs scored, while Colin Templin finished 2-for-6 a double, RBI, and two runs scored. Tyler McGarvey added two hits and an RBI, Kolbie Reeser had a double and scored three times. Jase Graybill had a solo home run, Nick Bergeman and Logan Ewert both had an RBI.

Blake Trumbore allowed four hits and four runs (three earned), while striking out three in 4.0 innings of work. Tommy Peifley, Ryan Spatz, and Jake Murgitroyde all had one strikeout in relief.

Berks will travel to Penn State Brandywine for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 18 at 4 p.m.
