Baseball drops a pair on the road to LBC

LANCASTER, PA - The Penn State Berks baseball team suffered a pair of setbacks to Lancaster Bible College in an United East doubleheader on Friday afternoon. The Chargers claimed the first game by a 5-1 margin and held off a late Berks rally for a 9-7 victory in the second game.

In the opener, the Chargers scored a run in the top of the first inning and the score remained that way until Berks evened it up in the top of the fifth. LBC scored a pair of runs in the bottom of hte fifth and tacked on two more in the sixth to earn the winning margin.

Josh Miiller scattered five hits and allowed three runs, while striking out six in 4.2 innings of work. Tommy Peifley allowed two runs and struck out one in 1.1 innings of relief.

Jase Graybill was 1-for-3 with an RBI, while Nick Bergeman was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Kolbie Reeser, Chad Evans, David Rudisill, and Tyler McGarvey all recorded a hit.

In game two, Berks opened the game with a run in the top of the first, but LBC countered with two in the bottom half. The Nittany Lions evened the game in top of the third, but again the Chargers responded with two in their half of the inning. The hosts scored two more in the fourth, followed by the Nittany Lions scoring three times over the fifth and seventh inning to pull within 6-5 of the Chargers. LBC put up three insurance runs in the eighth, which came in big for them as Berks scored twice in the top of the ninth.

Colin Templin was 4-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI, and two runs scored, while Reeser went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and two runs scored. Bergeman added one hit, two RBI, and a stolen base, Evan had a double and an RBI. Jonathan Myers chipped in a hit and two runs, Graybill scored once.

Ricky Peters allowed seven hits and six runs, while striking out six in 6.0 innings of work. Sam Perrone allowed three runs and struck out one in 2.0 innings of relief.

Due to rain in the forecast all day tomorrow, the third game of the series between Berks and LBC is postponed. As of this time, no make up date has been announced.
