Baseball rally comes up short against Wilson

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks baseball team scored 10 in the last four innings and had the bases loaded in the ninth, but the rally came up just short in a 19-14 setback to Wilson College in non-conference action at Hintz Athletic Field on Thursday afternoon.

The Phoenix scored runs in each of of the first four frames and were ahead 17-3 heading into the fifth. After keep Wilson scoreless in the top of the fifth, Berks placed a run and added three more in the sixth. The visitors added to their lead with two runs in the top of eighth, but the Nittany Lions countered with seven in their half to pull within five runs. Berks got singles from its first three hitters in the ninth to load the bases, but Jacob Whittington worked out of the jam with three straight strikeouts to end the threat.

Jonathan Myers (double), David Rudisill, and Colin Amerine (home run) all collected three hits and three RBI, while combining to score five runs. Griffin Kay added three hits and two RBI, while Chad Evans collected a pair of hits, a stolen base, and scored twice. Rayjay Marmolejos had two hits, including a double to go along with a run and an RBI. Kolbie Reeser had a double and scored twice and Tyler McGarvey added a hit and an RBI. Colin Templin and Sam Perrone both collected a hit and scored a run.

Mike Kelemen allowed four hits and struck out two batters in 3.1 innings of scoreless relief. Grant Jacoby struck out two batters in a scoreless inning of relief.

The Nittany Lions open up their three-game United East series with a doubleheader against Lancaster Bible College on Friday, April 14 at 1 p.m.
