Baseball drops slugfest to Muhlenberg

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks baseball team suffered an 18-13 setback to Muhlenberg College in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon. The two teams combined for 12 extra base hits, six of which were home runs.

The Mules (7-7-1) jumped out to a 7-0 lead after their first two at bats, but Berks responded with four runs over the second and third innings. Muhlenberg had back-to-back innings with four runs, but again the Nittany Lions battled back to make it 15-10 after six innings. The visitors plated three more in the eighth, followed by Berks scoring three times in its final two at bats.

Chad Evans, who smacked a pair of solo home runs, finished 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored, while Jase Graybill went 3-for-4 with a double, homer, two RBI, and three runs scored. Colin Templin recorded a triple, home run, five RBI, and two runs scored, Riley Weaver added two hits and scored twice. David Rudisill added a hit and an RBI, while Nick Bergeman and Bryce Kelly both had a hit and scored a run. Sam Perrone (two walks) and Jonathan Myers (two stolen bases) each scored once.

Tommy Peifley allowed two hits and one run, while striking out four batters in 2.2 innings of relief. Josh Miiller recorded a pair of punchouts in one inning of relief, Jake Dianna and Wade Kaminski both had a strikeout.

Berks open up a three-game series with Penn State Harrisburg on Friday, March 24 at 3 p.m.
