MBB drops OT thriller on Senior Day

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team suffered a 91-90 setback in overtime to Penn College in an United East contest on Friday night. Prior to tip-off Jeff Lorah and Hassan Koroma were honored for Senior Day.

The Wildcats led 45-37 after the first half and expanded their lead to as much as 13 (54-41) with 15:50 remaining in regulation. Lorah knocked down a pair of 3's and Matthew Gingerich hit from long range over the next two minutes to trim the Nittany Lions deficit to three points (56-53) with 12:59 to play. The lead remained in single-digits in the Wildcats favor until a layup by Isaiah Cotten evened the score with 1:25 remaining. Neither teams was able to break the tie and the teams went to overtime knotted at 81-apiece.

Cotten scored the Nittany Lions for six points in overtime, the last basket pulled Berks to within four points (91-87) with 1:19 left. Josh Gardner knocked down his sixth 3-pointer of the game to make it a one point deficit for Berks (91-90) with 50 seconds left. The Berks defense forced a turnover and the team was able to play for the final shot of the game. Gingerich got an offensive rebound with eight seconds remaining and the team called timeout to draw up a play. Unfortunately, the Nittany Lions had two more shots, but came up empty.

Gardner finished with a team-high 20 points and seven rebounds, while Lorah chipped in 14 points, four assists, four steals, and three boards. Cotten added 14 points, three steals, and three rebounds, while Gingerich finished with 13 points, five boards, four assists, and four steals. Luke Collins rounded out the Nittany Lions scoring in double figures with 11 points to go with four rebounds, and two assists.

Gavin Barrett led the Wildcats with 32 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists, while Keon Evans chipped in 19 points and Will Sulesky had 12.

Berks will finish off its regular season with an United East contest at Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday, February 18 at 3 p.m.
