WBB drops season opener at Gwynedd Mercy Tip-Off Tournament

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team opened up its 2023-24 season by a dropping a 91-33 decision on the road to Gwynedd Valley University on Friday night.

The Nittany Lions trailed 47-22 at halftime, but the host Griffins expanded their lead in the second half on the opening round contest of the Gwynedd Mercy Tip-Off Tournament.

Sam Hagenbush finished with a team-high nine points to go along with two assists, and two rebounds, while Hailey Miller added eight points and two blocked shots to go with a team-best 10 boards and three assists. Mahala Ruffner chipped in six points and two blocks, while pulling down a game-high 14 rebounds. Ashlyn Clark finished with six points and seven rebounds.

Lynzie Eggers and Erin Eisenhart tied for the team lead for Gwynedd Mercy with 16 points, while Kristen Newsome added 13. Sydney Kesselman and Natalie O'Neill tied for the team lead with 11 rebounds.

The Nittany Lions will face Widener University on Saturday, November 11 at 12 p.m.
