MBB drops home opener to Alvernia

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's basketball suffered a 95-68 setback to Alvernia University in the Nittany Lions home opener on Friday night.

The Nittany Lions erased a 14-7 deficit in the early going and eventually led 23-20 after 3-pointer by Luke Collins with 8:17 left in the half. The Golden Wolves closed out the half on a 20-9 to take a 40-32 lead into the intermission. Marquis Ferreira's 3-pointer with 11:52 remaining in regulation pulled the Nittany Lions back to within eight points (60-52), but Alvernia went on a 15-3 run over the next four minutes to put the game out of reach.

Darik Tannis-Harriet and Josh Mingledolph each had 16 points, four assists, and two steals. Tannis-Harriet pulled down a team-high nine rebounds, while Mingledolph followed with six boards. Jaedon Mast chipped in 13 points and two steals, while Luke Collins added 12. Andre Ballard finished with four points, three rebounds, and three assists.

Jakob Kelly led the Golden Wolves with 28 points and seven rebounds, while Nigel Cooke chipped in 16 points. Robert Mullan added 14 points, followed by Jalil Schenck with 13 and Alex Cercado with 12.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Moravian University for a non-conference contest on Saturday, November 11 at 6:30 p.m.
