WVB wins five-set thriller over St. Mary's

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team won a five-set thriller over St. Mary's College in an United East contest on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions remained unbeaten at home to improve to 4-8 overall and 2-0 in the United East, while the Seahawks drop to 7-12 on the season and 0-2 in the conference. SMC won the first set by a score of 25-18, but Berks responded with a win a 25-18 win the second set and cruised to a 25-11 in the third game. The Seahawks rallied for a 25-23 win in the fourth set, but the Nittany Lions had a 15-5 triumph in the fifth set clincher.

Katelyn Williams finished with a game-high 15 kills, followed by Jordan Thompson with 11 and Aubrey Hunt with 10. Diana Stoltzfus added nine kills and Makenzie Shoop had five. Williams led the team with 24 digs, followed by Riley Kovach (20). Hunt (17), Stoltzfus (11), and Shoop (10) all recorded double digit in digs. Kovach, who had added 40 assists, had a team-best five service aces. Stoltzfus added four aces, while Williams had three and Thompson chipped in one.

The Nittany Lions will host Arcadia University in a non-conference contest on Thursday, October 12 at 6 p.m.
