Men's soccer wins thriller over Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, PA - The Penn State Berks men's soccer team won a 1-0 thriller over Delaware Valley University in non-conference action on Wednesday evening.

The Nittany Lions won their second straight contest to improve to 2-5-2 on the season, while the Aggies fall to 3-5-2 overall.

Delaware Valley was whistled for a foul in the box at the 9:19 mark of the opening half. Patrick Cwalinski converted the penalty kick to record his fifth goal, second game-winner, of the season.

The Aggies offense five shots and three corner kicks over the next 10 minutes following the score, but Ethan Brazier and the Berks defense were able to keep them off the board. Delaware Valley made another push late in the first half, but again the Nittany Lions denied their effort.

Both teams exchanged scoring opportunities in the second half, but neither found the back of the net.

Delaware Valley outshot Berks by an 18-9 margin (8-5 on net) and held a 9-3 advantage on corner kicks.

Ethan Brazier finished with eight saves in net to record the shutout victory. Billy Meltzer and Liam Morris both finished with two saves, while splitting time in net for the Aggies.

The Nittany Lions will host Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday, October 7 at 4 p.m.
