Women's soccer drops heartbreaker to St. Mary's

ST. MARY'S, MD - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 heartbreaking defeat on the road to St. Mary's College in an United East contest on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions drop to 7-8-1 on the season and 3-1-1 in the United East, while the Seahawks improve to 6-6-3 overall and 3-2-1 in the conference.

The lone score of the contest came at the 32:48 mark of the first half when Ella Raines took a pass from Cicely Clark and slotted a shot through the left side of the net.

Diana Pon and Maya Dolan combined for three shots on goal, but neither were able to find the back of the net. For the game, the Seahawks outshot Berks by a 8-6 margin (3-3 on goal), while the Nittany Lions had a 5-2 advantage on corner kicks.

Sophia Gonzalez and Maura Chawner each finished with one save in net, while Seahawks keeper Kylie Wells made three stops.

Berks will host Penn State Harrisburg in the regular season finale on Tuesday, October 24 at 7:30 p.m. Prior to the contest, the Nittany Lions will recognize Sara Hathaway, Erna Hamzic, and Morgan Kline with Senior Day honors.
