Women's soccer shuts out LBC on the road

LANCASTER, PA - Diana Pon scored a pair of goals and the Penn State Berks women's soccer team pitched another shutout as the Nittany Lions topped Lancaster Bible College, 3-0, in United East action on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions improved to 6-6-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the conference, while the Chargers fell to 9-4-1 on the season and 3-2 in the United East.

Pon notched her first score of the afternoon with a goal at the 20:13 mark of the first half, with Sara Hathaway providing the assist. Pon tacked on her second score of the day off a feed by Paige Borkowski at the 46:44 mark of the contest.

The score would remain that way until the 87th minute when Adriana Lepera tallied an unassisted score to put the game well out of reach.

The Nittany Lions outshot LBC by a 17-12 margin (11-7 on goal), while the Chargers held a 4-1 advantage on corner kicks.

Sophia Gonzalez finished with seven saves to earn the teams sixth shutout of the season, while Charger keeper Kari Anna Mecke recorded eight saves.

Berks will host Franklin & Marshall College in a non-conference contest on Tuesday, October 17 at  6 p.m.
