Abinton pulls away late against women's basketball

ABINGTON, PA - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team suffered a 75-52 setback on the road to Penn State Abington in an United East contest on Tuesday night.

Abington led 20-18 after the first quarter and took a 39-34 lead into the halftime intermission. Out of the break, Abington outscored Berks by a 23-12 margin in the third to expand its lead to 16 points (62-46) to control the contest.

Hailey Miller earned the fourth double-double of the season after recording 19 points and 10 rebounds to go along with four assists. Morgan Kline finished with 10 points, seven boards, and three assists, while Lyla Spencer added seven points, three rebounds, and three steals. Kayley Mattis finished with six points and eight rebounds, while Jalyn Hann had six points and five rebounds.

Angela Sanders had 25 points, eight rebounds, and two steals, followed by Camille Fleming with 15 points and a team-high 12 boards. Cassie Tavormina chipped in 14 points and Isabella Vazquez added 11.

The Nittany Lions will host SUNY Morrisville in an United East contest on Wednesday, February 8 at 5 p.m. The women's team will join the men's team in hosting its annual Pink Game fundraiser to benefit the Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County.
