MBB tops Gallaudet for 2nd time this week

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Penn Stat Berks men's basketball team defeated Gallaudet University for the second time in six days after topping its United East opponent, 79-67, on the road Friday night.

The Nittany Lions, who were 84-76 winners over GU last Saturday, improves to 6-10 overall and 4-5 in the United East, while the Bison fall to 1-17 on the season and 0-9 in the conference.

Berks trailed 11-3 early on and were down 21-11 around the midway point of the opening half. From that point, the Nittany Lions outscored GU by a 25-11 margin to go into the halftime break leading by one (36-35). The teams were tied at 41-41 with 16:35 left in regulation and Berks led one point with as late 6:50 to play. Andre Ballard scored the next five points of the game and Isaiah Cotten added a pair of free throws to extend the Nittany Lions to 8 points (67-59) with under 5 minutes. The Berks defense held strong and the offense was 6-for-8 at the line over the final minute to secure the victory.

Cotten led the Nittany Lions with 18 points to go along with five rebounds, five assists, and two blocked shots. Darik Tannis-Harriet finished with 14 points, nine assists, five steals, and two rebounds, while Andre Ballard finished with 14 points, six boards, and three steals. Jeff Lorah and Luke Collins both had 12 points and the duo combined for six assists and three steals.

Preston Kelly led the Bison with 19 points, nine assists, and six rebounds, followed by Blessed Mbogo with 12 points, nine boards, and two steals.

The Nittany Lions will travel to St. Mary's College for an United East contest on Saturday, January 28 at 3 p.m.
