WBB drops nail biter to Penn College

WILLIAMSPORT, PA - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team suffered a heartbreaking setback, 51-49, to Penn College in an United East contest on Wednesday night.

The Nittany Lions led 14-13 after the first quarter and took a 26-25 lead into the halftime break. After an even third quarter, Berks took a 36-35 lead going into the final 10 minutes of play. In the fourth quarter, the teams were deadlocked on five occasions. Hailey Miller hit a free throw with 11 seconds remaining to cap off an old-fashioned three-point play that evened the score at 49-all. Lexi Troup made a layup with 3 seconds remaining and the Wildcats did not allow Berks to get off a shot in the waning seconds of play.

Miller finished with 13 points, nine rebounds, and two steals, while Lyla Spencer added 10 points, nine boards, three steals, and two assists. Morgan Kline, who played all 40 minutes of action, had nine points, nine rebounds, and two assists, followed by Jalyn Hann with eight points and six boards. Kayley Mattis chipped in six points and six boards.

Rachel Teats led the Wildcats with 18 points to go along with six rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Kaleigh Miller added 10 points, while Aubrey Stetts had seven points, six rebounds, and four steals.

The Nittany Lions will travel to SUNY Morrisville on Tuesday, January 17 at 5 p.m.
