Women's volleyball drops five set thriller to Muhlenberg

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team was narrowly edged by Muhlenberg College, 3-2, in a thriller in non-conference action on Thursday night.

The Nittany Lions fell 25-16 in the opening game, but bounced by with wins of 25-17 and 25-21 to take a 2-1 lead. The Mules dominated the fourth game to the tune of 25-7 and used a late rally to win 15-13 in the decisive fifth set.

Cassie Shoupe led Berks with 12 kills, followed by Jordan Thompson with 10 and Makenzie Shoop with nine. Five different players recorded double digit digs, led by Riley Kovach with 28, followed by Aubrey Hunt (19), Diana Stoltzfus (15), Shoupe (13), and Julia Rathsam (13). Rathsam also dished out 39 assists and assisted one two blocks.

The Nittany Lions will compete in a tri-match on Saturday, September 24. They face host Cabrini University at 11 a.m., followed by Hood College at 1 p.m.
