Volleyball splits at Cabrini tri-match

RADNOR, PA - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Cabrini University tri-match on Saturday afternoon. Host Cabrini topped Berks 3-0 in the first game, but the Nittany Lions pulled out a thrilling 3-2 win over Hood College in the second game of the day.

In the opener, the Cavaliers won by game scores of 25-17, 25-12, 25-17.

Cassie Shoupe had eight kills, followed by Makenzie Shoop with six and Jordan Thompson with four. Julia Rathsam dished out 17 assists, while Riley Kovach had nine digs.

In the next game, the Blazer won the opening set by a score of 25-16. Berks bounced back with wins of 25-20 and 25-15, but Hood evened the score with a 25-19 win in the fourth. In the decisive fifth set, Berks jumped out to an 8-1 lead en route to a 15-9 triumph.

Thompson had a team-high 15 kills, followed by Sarah Nichols with 12 and Shoupe with 10. Kovach recorded 21 digs, while Shoupe had 12 and Aubrey Hunt with 10. Diana Stoltzfus had a game-high five service aces, followed by Kovach with three. Rathsam handed out 46 assists in the winning effort.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Neumann University for a non-conference contest on Tuesday, September 27 at 7 p.m.
