Women's soccer wins United East opener over LBC

READING, PA -  The Penn State Berks women's soccer team scored a flurry of goals in a span of 3:08 in the first half en route to a 9-1 victory over Lancaster Bible College in United East action on Wednesday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions improved to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while LBC now sits at 3-3 on the season and 0-2 in league play.

Ashley Olivares started the scoring binge with her first goal of the season at the 23:07 mark, with Emily Clapper adding the assist. At the 24:25 mark, Ashley Jocham headed a corner kick by Diana Pon. A little over a minute later, Clapper scored after a nice through ball in traffic from Sara Hathaway. The final score in this stretch came at 26:15 by Hathaway on a cross by Olivares.

In the first half, Clapper and Pon each added another goal. Pon scored her second goal of the day in the 61st minute, followed by Faith Wavershak on a pass by Carsyn Hyman in the 64th minute.

The Chargers added a score from a corner kick at 73:22, but Hathaway added a final tally in the 77th minute.

Sophia Gonzalez made one save in net to earn the win for Berks, while Erin Mikula finished with nine stops for the Chargers.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Wells College for an United East match on Saturday, September 24 at 1 p.m.
