Volleyball splits at Lycoming tri-match

WILLIAMSPORT, PA - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 setback to host Lycoming College, but bounced back with a 3-0 triumph over Wilson College on Saturday afternoon in Lamade Gymnasium.

The Nittany Lions (4-3) dropped the first two sets to Lycoming by scores of 25-14 and 25-21. Berks took the next set 25-18, but the Warriors (8-1) put the match away with a 25-19 win in the fourth. 

Cassie Shoupe led Berks with 10 kills, five aces, and tied Riley Kovach with a team-high 14 digs. The duo combined for 12 of the Nittany Lions 13 service aces, Kovach had a season-high seven aces and Shoupe matched her career-high with five. Aubrey Hunt and Diana Stoltzfus each chipped in six kills. Julia Rathsam finished with 31 assists, 11 digs, and one block assist.

Against the Phoenix (0-7), Berks cruised to the win with scores of 25-12, 25-8, 25-16.

Jordan Thompson and Makenzie Shoop each had five kills followed by Sarah Nichols, Adriana Leon-Vazquez, Stoltzfus, and Hunt with four kills each. Berks finished with a season-high 21 aces, led by Shoupe (seven), Rathsam (six), and Stoltzfus (four). Kovach had a team-high 10 digs and Rathsam followed with eight.

The Nittany Lions will host Immaculata University on Tuesday, September 20 at 6 p.m.
