Women's soccer blanks Alvernia, 2-0

READING, PA – The Penn State Berks women's soccer team defeated nearby foe Alvernia University, 2-0, in a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions improved to 3-1 on the year, while the Golden Wolves drop to 0-2-2.

Berks had an 8-2 edge in shots and 2-0 advantage in corner kicks in the first half, yet the teams went into the break in a scoreless tie.

In the second half, Emily Clapper shook a defender and passed Diana Pon, who quickly sent a pass over to Adriana Lepera. Lepera deflected the ball past the keeper for her first score of the game and giving Berks a 1-0 lead at the 49:35 mark.

In the 55th minute, Diana Pon sent a free kick toward the front of the goal, which Clapper then put inside the left post for her second goal this season.

Sophia Gonzalez made four saves to earn her third shutout win of the season, while her counterpart Brynn Bock finished with 11 stops for Alvernia.

For the game, Berks outshout the Golden Wolves by a 23-8 margin and held a 4-1 advantage on corner kicks.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Albright College for a non-conference contest on Monday, September 12 at 7 p.m.
