Baseball splits on the road with Penn State Abington

JENKINTOWN, PA - The Penn State Berks baseball team split with Penn State Abington in an United East doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. Berks won the opener 7-3, before falling by a score of 14-4 in the second game of the twinbill.

In game one, Alex Laudenslager tossed a complete game gem as he moved into a tie for most wins in program history. The senior right-hander picked up his 17th win of his career after scattering four hits and allowing three runs (two earned), while striking out four in 7.0 innings of work. After giving up three runs in the bottom of the first, Laudenslager settled in and did not allow another run the rest of the way.

Berks scored a pair of runs in the top of the first, but Abington responding with the aforementioned three runs in the bottom half. Berks regained the lead with four runs in the fourth and added an insurance run in the top of the seventh.

Kolbie Reeser went 3-for-4 with two doubles, while Joe Gramignano and Colin Templin were both 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Josh Hernandez added two hits, an RBI, and a run scored. Nate Trovinger and Logan Ewert were both 1-for-3 with an RBI, while David Rudisill added a hit and scored a run.

In game two, Abington held an 8-0 lead over the first three innings before Berks combined for four runs in the fourth and fifth to cut the lead to 8-4. Abington responded with two runs in the bottom half of the fifth then went on to score four more runs to put the game out of reach.

Chad Evans finished 4-for-5 with a run scored, while Nick Bergeman was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored. Nate Trovinger and Griffin Kay each added two hits, Gramignano and Logan Ewert both had a hit and drove in a run.

Berks will play a non-conference doubleheader at Penn State Brandywine on Wednesday, April 6. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 4 p.m.
