Baseball splits with Wells; Laudenslager becomes all-time wins leader

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks baseball team split a doubleheader against Wells College with lopsided scores both ways in United East action on Saturday afternoon. The Express won the opener by a final of 18-5, while Berks responded with an 23-1 victory in the second game.

With the win in game two, Alex Laudenslager became the all-time winningest pitcher in program history. The senior right-hander earned his 18 victory, surpassing Sean Pavlik, who had 17 wins over 2015-18. Laudenslager allowed only four hits and one run, while striking out five in 6.0 innings of work. Colin Wilson had two strikeouts in 2.0 scoreless inning of relief, while Ryan Spatz had a strikeout in a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Joe Gramignano went 5-for-5 with two doubles, six RBI, and three runs scored. Colin Templin and Josh Hernandez each recorded three hits and combined for three RBI and six runs scored. Nate Trovinger went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBI and three runs, Logan Ewert was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored. Chad Evans, Kolbie Reeser, David Rudisill, and Griffin Kay all scored a pair of runs.

In the first game setback, Trovinger was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored, while Evans was 2-for-4 with two doubles and drove in two. Templin (triple) and Kay (double) both had two hits and two runs scored.

Ben Berkel had six strikeouts in 5.0 innings of work, while Dom Mayorca and Sam Perrone each had a strikeout in a combined 2.0 innings of relief.

The Nittany Lions will face Delaware Valley University on Tuesday, April 19 at 3:30 p.m.
