Baseball wins series opener against Wells

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks baseball team scored in bunches in a 20-4 win over Wells College in an United East contest on Friday afternoon.

The Express got on the board first with a run in the top of the first, but Berks countered with four in the second inning. Wells plated another run in the third and two more in the sixth to knot the game at 4-all. In the sixth, seventh, and eighth inning, the Nittany Lions combined to score 16 runs and put the game out of reach.

Griffin Kay finished 3-for-3 with a triple, three two RBI, and three runs scored, while Joe Gramignano was 3-for-5 with two doubles, five RBI, and a run scored. Logan Ewert (four RBI) and David Rudisill each had two hits, including a double, and scored three runs, while Chad Evens collected two hits, a home run, two runs scored and two RBI. Nate Trovinger chipped in two hits, including a triple, and scored twice, while Colin Templin also added two hits and drove in two. Colin Amerine had a two-run single and scored a run, Kolbie Reeser had a hit and scored twice.

Josh Miiller allowed 11 hits and four runs, while striking out five in 6.0 innings to earn the win. Sam Perrone picked up the save after striking out three in 3.0 innings of two-hit, scoreless relief.

The Nittany Lions and Wells will continue the three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 16 at 12 p.m.
