Baseball uses late rally to top Albright

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks baseball team rallied in the later innings to earn a 7-5 come-from-behind win over Albright College in a non-conference contest on Monday afternoon at Hintz Athletic Field.

Albright plated a run in the top of the first, but Berks was able to even the game at 1-all on a sacrifice fly by Logan Ewert to score Chad Evans. The visitors pushed across a single run in the third, fifth, and sixth innings to build a 4-1 lead. In the bottom of the sixth, Nate Trovinger led off with a double to right field and Evans followed with a home run to left field. Later in the inning, Kolbie Reeser scored from first base on a throwing error by the catcher that went to center field and Ewert, who walked on the play, advanced to second base on the throw to the plate. Jase Graybill followed with a line drive single up the middle to score Ewert give Berks a 5-4 lead.

Albright knotted the game a 5-5 with sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh. In the bottom half, Colin Templin beat out a grounder to second base and scored on a double to right field by Trovinger. Trovinger advanced to third on a wild pitch and hustled home on an Evans grounder to the pitcher to build a 7-5 advantage.

Sam Perrone, in his second inning of work, got three fly outs to the outfield for a 1-2-3 eighth inning. In the ninth, Joe Gramignano struck out two batters, the second of which for the final out of the game with the bases loaded.

Colin Wilson allowed four hits and five runs, while striking out five in 6.0 innings of work. Perrone earned the win with 2.0 innings of one-hit, scoreless relief, Gramignano recorded the save.

Trovinger finished 2-for-4 with two doubles, one RBI, and two runs, while Reeser was 2-for-3 with a run. Evans was 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base. Templin had a hit and scored a run, Graybill added a hit and an RBI.

The Nittany Lions will host Wells College in an United East doubleheader, beginning with a single-game on Friday, April 15 at 3 p.m.
