Baseball edged by Eastern Nazarene in season opener

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Penn State Berks baseball team dropped a 7-4 decision to Eastern Nazarene College in the season opener on Saturday evening at the Ripken Experience.

Joe Gramignano had an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth that scored Logan Ewert, who led off the inning with a single, to cut the ENC lead to 6-1.

The Lions scored in the top of the seventh to go up 7-1, but Berks battled back in their half of the inning. After two quick outs, Kolbie Reeser and Colin Templin each drew walks and Reeser came in to score on a wild pitch. Templin scored on a single up the middle by Chad Evans to make it a 7-3 ballgame. Evans eventually scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to three runs, but that is as close as they would get the rest of the way.

Nick Bergeman opened up the season on a strong note, going 3-for-4 with a double to lead the Nittany Lions offensive attack. Evans went 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI, while Ewert and Templin both had a hit and a run scored.

The Nittany Lions will take on Kean University on Sunday, March 6 at 12:30 p.m.
