Baseball wraps up Spring Trip with win over Dean

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Penn State Berks baseball team concluded its spring trip with a 7-1 victory over Dean College on Friday morning.

The Nittany Lions, who finished with a 3-4 record at the Ripken Experience, scored a run in each of the first two innings. They tacked on a single run in the fourth, then plated three runners in the fifth, and added a final run in the seventh.

Alex Laudenslager struck out the side in the top of the first inning and cruised through six innings. In his seventh and final inning, Laudenslager allowed one run while working out of a bases loaded, one-out jam. The senior, right-hander picked up the win after allowing five hits and one run, while striking out nine in 7.0 innings of work. Ryan Spatz retired all three batters he faced in the eighth inning and Ben Berkel allowed one hit in a scoreless ninth inning.

Kolbie Reeser was 3-for-5 with a double, while Tyler McGarvey finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Joe Gramignano and Chad Evans both were 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Logan Ewert finished 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Jase Graybill added a hit and scored a run.

The Nittany Lions will their home opener against Juniata College on Wednesday, March 16 at 3 p.m.
